The tiger captures prey by stealth or making a strong spurt or jump (reaching up to 9 meters in length and up to 2 meters in height) from an ambush. It's strong enough to bite and break the spinal bones even attacking gross animals (such as the buffalo), and sometimes carries away the carcass for several kilometers. Having missed its target the tiger stalks its prey no longer than 100 150 meters. The tiger can eat nearly 35 kilograms at a time. While hunting it's normally mute, and gives mouth only during the mating season.
